A Message to the Women

Sheikh Saalih Al-Fawzaan

"The hearts can only be gathered upon the Book of Allah tabaraka wa ta’aala. Don’t try anything else. The hearts can only be gathered upon the Sunnah of the Messenger SAW. Don’t you try anything else! The hearts can only be gathered upon our understanding of As Salaf as-saalih, the Sahabah, and those who followed them, and those who followed them, they’re students of those upon that path. Don’t try anything else! It won’t work. It won’t work. Spend what you want to spend of time, or rather waste what you want to waste of time. Spend what you want to spend, say what you want to say.
Try to bring them together based on geography, try to bring them together based on nationalism, try to bring them together based on language. Try to bring them together based on anything else that will not work."

Who are the people of taqwa?

Taqwa is the fear of Allah swt. People of taqwa are those who fear Allah swt and obey Him.

The Quran is referred to and described as a reminder. A reminder is not new information..it is something you already know but forgot. And the more you forget something, the more you need to be reminded of it right?

The Quran mentions taqwa many, many times because Allah swt knows that we are going to be forgetful of it. The more something is mentioned, it is because it’s more likely that people will forget it quickly.

In surah Al-Imran, Allah swt mentions the people of taqwa. Before Allah swt talks about them, He mentions Jannah. And after Allah swt talks about them, He mentions Jannah again. Their mention is sandwiched between the mention of Jannah to show how important and powerful their traits are.

Mention before:

And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous. [3:133]

Mention after:

Those - their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens beneath which rivers flow [in Paradise], wherein they will abide eternally; and excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers. [3:136]

Attributes of the people of taqwa:

  1. Those who spend when it’s easy and when it’s hard. And they spend it for the sake of Allah swt. Whether it’s money, time, youth, energy, priorities, plan. They give up these things for the sake of Allah in order to invest for the Hereafter.
  2. Those who swallow their anger. When you’re chewing something, people can tell you’re eating right? But if you’ve swallowed it, they wouldn’t know that you’ve eaten. This is how we should be with our anger. Don’t even let it show on your face that you’re angry. Those who believe have great control over their anger.
  3. Those who forgive out of love. Allah swt uses the word ‘affin’ not ‘ghafirin’. Ghaf is someone who forgives. ‘aff is someone who forgives out of love. No exceptions- don’t say someone doesn’t deserve forgiveness because the actual meaning of ‘forgiving’ is giving it to someone who doesn’t deserve it. And always remember that you’re not doing it for their sake, you’re doing it for the sake of Allah swt.

People of taqwa are only human; they’re not immune to bad deeds. Allah swt, after mentioning their good deeds, also mentions their bad deeds:

  1. Those who commit fahshataan (acts of shamelessness). Examples of such acts would be gazing at something forbidden for you such as a billboard, a new facebook friend you’ve made, anything. Or perhaps having an inappropriate conversation with someone you shouldn’t be talking to. Whatever it may be, Allah swt knows what your hearts conceal.
  2. Those who wrong themselves. Whether it’s by missing fajr prayer, not paying your zakaat, not giving sadaqah, etc.

BUT afterwards, Allah swt says those who when they commit those bad deeds, remember Allah and ask for His forgiveness.

The true believer, when he does something wrong, remembers Allah straight away.

Even if you commit sin, disappoint Allah, or fall short the standards He’s sent for us, never lose your hope in Allah swt. Because He is all you have. He’s the only One who can forgive you.
